Short film about WWII.
"Les Yeux de l'Ennemi" is a short war film that takes place on the 10th of May 1940, during the sudden German attack on France through the Ardennes Forest, known as the Blitzkrieg. In the midst of the chaos, a French soldier falls down a hill and becomes separated from his unit. As he navigates the forest, he stumbles upon the bodies of both French and German soldiers.
Desperate for a weapon, he takes the gun of a dead soldier and continues his journey back to the French line. Along the way, he hears the sound of a wounded German soldier. With caution, he approaches and points his gun, but when he looks into the eyes of the wounded enemy, he sees his own humanity reflected back at him. Overcoming his initial instincts, the French soldier decides to help the wounded German, despite the fact that he is the enemy.
However, their moment of humanity is short-lived, as two German soldiers arrive on the scene and see the French soldier helping the wounded German. They open fire, forcing the French soldier to flee for his life. "Les Yeux de l'Ennemi" is a powerful story about the humanity that exists even in times of war, and how sometimes, the enemy is not so different from ourselves. Written and directed by Kevin Kaufmann, this short film is a poignant reminder of the cost of war and the importance of compassion, even in the face of adversity.
